My Journey
I’m an engineering leader with over 20 years of experience building customer-focused products and high-performance teams. My education is in electrical and computer engineering at the University of Florida, with a focus on signal processing, communication systems, and control theory. After graduate school, I worked on audio DSP and embedded systems, contributing to patented technologies at a Bell Labs Venture - iBiquity Digital (now Xperi), SiriusXM Radio, and MuseAmi.
Later, at Capital One, I progressed from an indiviual contributor (IC) to Senior Director of Software Engineering, leading a mobile, web, and backend organization of 60+ engineers. I focused on large-scale architecture migrations, microservices transformations, CI/CD improvements, and creating full-stack teams that delivered exceptional experiences to millions of users.
Right Now
In 2024, our family relocated to Copenhagen where I have enjoyed a career break. This chapter has been about recharging, building cross-cultural perspective, achieving Danish A2 proficiency, supporting the international school community, and pursuing personal interests. We are planning to return to the Washington, DC area in summer 2026. I am open to local or remote engineering leadership opportunities.
Beyond Work
When I’m not thinking about systems and software, you’ll likely find me on a bike with a camera in hand exploring Copenhagen’s streets, experimenting in the kitchen, or lost in a historical fiction book. I believe the principles that make great product experience such as clarity, simplicity, and human connection, equally apply just as well to life.
Why Tyto Labs?
The name Tyto Labs comes from my children’s fascination with owls when they were younger. We spend a lot of time on Maryland’s Eastern Shore where the owls are more commonly found in the marshes and open fields. Owls have symbolized wisdom, keen observation, and insight from the days of antiquity as well as the symbol of Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and craftsmanship. Tyto Labs represents that same spirit of quiet curiosity and clarity as my personal space to explore technology, life’s interesting moments, and the connections between them.
